WSOP

World Series of Poker (WSOP) is a series of poker tournament held every summer in Las Vegas. The first World Series of Poker was played at Binion’s Horseshoe in 1970. This was not a tournament as we have come to know them but a series of cash games that included Texas Hold’em, Seven Card Stud, Five Card Stud, Razz and 2-7 Low Ball Draw. Also, it was not an open event to which anyone could by in – the entire field consisted of seven well-known poker players that had been invited to participate. The winner was elected by secret ballot.

Since then, the WSOP has grown significantly. The 2012 WSOP consisted of over 60 tournaments, including a WSOP Main Event that attracted a field of 6 865 players. WSOP is traditionally held in June and July, but starting 2008 the final table of the Main Event has been played in fall. In 2008-2011 the final table was played in November, but in 2012 the final table was moved to late October to avoid it taking place at the same time as the United States presidential election.
